Phoenix High School Awarded a Bronze Medal

E-mail Print PDF

Phoenix High School (Plaquemines Parish) was recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation's best high schools and awarded a Bronze Medal.  Phoenix is one of thirty-nine (39) Louisiana high schools to make U.S. News & World Report's 2009 List of Best High Schools.

To derive the list, U.S. News & World Report and School Evaluation Services, a K-12 education data research business run by Standard & Poor's, analyzed academic and enrollment data from more than 21,000 public high schools in forty-eight states (48).

Their report is based on key principles that "a great high school must serve all its students well, not just those who are bound for college and that it must be able to produce measureable academic outcomes to show that the school is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators."

Here's the link to the U.S. News & World Report's data on Phoenix High School.

Congratulations to Phoenix High School!

Short Term Disability

E-mail Print PDF

Some employees with Short-Term Disability have questioned why they cannot receive benefits before the 14-day waiting period.  We want to present you with a comparison between the current plan and a newly proposed plan.  Currently, we offer a group plan with a lower monthly premium.  The proposed plan has a 0 (zero) day waiting period for an accident; 7 day waiting period for illness versus the 14 day waiting period for accident/illness with the current plan.

Please review the attached table and let us know if you would prefer the shorter waiting period with a higher premium (Choice A Proposed Plan) or a longer waiting period with a lower premium (Choice B Current Plan).  Please let us know your choice via e-mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) by Friday, January 9, 2009, so that the insurance broker can shop for the best rates.  The survey results will be used to determine which plan PPSB will offer to its employees.  Note that long-term disability benefits will remain the same with benefits beginning on day 91.  Also, premiums may alter based on current employment census information.
